Who We Are
Escuela Caracol is located in the valley of San Marcos La Laguna in the department of Sololá, Guatemala. We receive support in the United States through the Atitlán Education Project, which is a program we initiated under the Congressional District Programs.
Joshua and Courtney Wilson founded Escuela Caracol in July 2007 after purchasing the garden where it is located. Before relocating to Lake Atitlán, they lived with their daughter Althea in Washington, DC, where Joshua worked in university administration and Courtney completed a master’s degree in art history. In 2008, their second daughter, Mirabai, was born in the kitchen of their San Marcos home. They both share experience in and a passion for teaching and community development.
*** The Atitlan Education Project is a project of Congressional District Programs, Inc. — a registered 501c(3) public charity. All money raised by the Atitlan Education Project is sent to Congressional District Programs and become the sole property of CDP which, for internal operating purposes, allocates the funds to the project. The Program Manager, Joshua Wilson, requests disbursements which are reviewed by CDP.***
